Amartype is a type foundry based on the Danish island of Amager (Amar), traditionally considered Copenhagen's backyard and home to working class neighbourhoods, Dutch farmers and seafarers.

The relaxed and nonconform spirit of the island forms the very base of the foundry.

Our work is built on joy, curiosity and no creative limitations: we design type for possibilities, reflection and entertainment rather than for clarity, functionality and taste.

Amartype is not for everyone, but if you like what you see, then welcome to the party.

The Type

Amartype is dedicated to giving you a unique experience. Our type is therefore solely released as individual nft's and prints. Licenses for single user fonts will be released later as nft's.

Our type is produced with modern, professional tools, and at the same time nods back to the era when type was produced by hand and used inhouse by printing houses.

Over time, our type will develop, change and expand. Every nft, print and font is therefore the unique result of the type system as it appeared on the date of production and is a snapshot of a continuous and ongoing story.

We also do commissioned work. Feel free to contact us if you would like us to design your own unique letters.

The Typeface

The first typeface from Amartype is Amartype Charm one. In Amartype Charm One, each letter is a multilayered charm with individual large and small details, allowing for different experiences as you zoom in and out.

Systems of letters, words and symbols mix in unexpected ways across and within the single letters.

The symbols are carefully selected from various traditions, including astrology, (esoteric) alchemy and runic mysticism, creating one of a kind powerful charms.

Each letter comes in several different variants. By mixing the variants, every word is a unique combination of letters, symbols  and details, giving you your own landscape of meanings to explore.

Great care and many hours have been put into manually hand crafting every different detail in each letter.

First Collection

The first Amartype collection is set with the typeface Amartype Charm one. 

Only 12 four letter words are for sale as the first ever nft collection (the Lingo collection) released by Amartype and the first time Amartype's work has been released to the public. The 12 crypto slang terms are selected to  capture the spirit and idiosyncracies of Amartype and for their unique use in the crypto space. 

The words included in the Lingo Collection are: APED, BURN, COIN, COPE, DYOR, FOMO, FREN, HODL, MINT, MOON, NGMI and NOOB. 

The very first Amartype first collection will be minted as nft's on the Aurora blockchain – an eco friendly and fast blockchain designed to be user friendly. The collection will be available for intitial purchase on the groundbreaking Endemic marketplace with each nft being uniquely identifiable using blockchain technology.

The Artist

Amartype is established by award winning type designer Elias Werner, born, raised and living on Amager.

Elias has more than 15 years of professional experience designing bespoke typefaces for Danish and International companies, institutions and cities.

Elias runs his own studio and is a Teaching Associate Professor at The Royal Danish Academy.
